I’m not frigid, or humorless. I’m not taking myself too seriously. And I’m certainly not hurting anyone.
“Feminism: The radical idea that women are people too.”
Feminism means that I expect to be treated like a person. Not like a woman, or a man. Not inferior to anyone, or like a stereotype.
My bad driving has nothing to do with being a woman. I can’t cook anything but chocolate chip cookies and spaghetti and things that take less than 5 minutes in the microwave. If I get emotional, its because I have emotions and a legitimate right to have feelings, not necessarily cause I’m PMSing.
I am a feminist, because I love myself, I love the women in my life, and I love the men who support us.
Because I love these wonderful people, I promise to be proud of being a feminist.
I won’t turn off my feminism to accommodate your “harmless” jokes.
I won’t be afraid to speak up when I find something offensive, even if someone might make fun of me or start an argument.
I won’t forget that although women have more equality than we once did, the struggle is far from over.
I won’t degrade myself, or other women, calling them sluts and whores, because it gives men permission to do the same.
I will love myself. I will chase my dreams. I will encourage my friends to do the same. I will be a good role model for little girls to do the same.
